Hughes finished the season with 28 tackles, four sacks and one forced fumble.

Analysis: Hughes was expected to thrive in new coach Sean McDermott's defense, but even though he was healthy and played a full 16-game slate for the sixth straight season, the big numbers never happened. The four sacks is the lowest he's had in five seasons with the Bills, while the same goes for the tackle total. He's still under contract with the team and didn't seem to end up in McDermott's doghouse at any point, so with the Bills lacking in pass rushers it would seem they'll bring Hughes back and hope he can perform better with a firmer grasp of the defense. Hughes' athleticism isn't the problem -- on the rare big plays he did make he looked as fast and strong as ever.

Harris signed a reserve/future contract with the Saints on Tuesday, Joel Erickson of The New Orleans Advocate reports.

Analysis: Harris began the 2017 season atop the Saints' depth chart but quickly fell from grace, which ultimately led to his release from the team in early December. The 24-year-old recorded 18 tackles (15 solo) in 11 games.

    • The Dolphins have concerns about Landry's...

The Dolphins have concerns about Landry's consistency and attitude that may impact negotiations for a contract extension, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.

Analysis: Landry can become a free agent in March and wants to be paid as one of the elite receivers in the league. His numbers say he deserves that status, but the Dolphins have concerns other than just money. Landry doesn't always run precise or even correct routes. His emotions have gotten the best of him on more than just a few occasions. Landry also doesn't always get along with his coaches and at times will even ignore what they say. The problem for Miami is all of this may be true, but if they won't pay him, someone will. If Miami and Landry can't come to a deal, he will likely be one of the more coveted players when free agency begins this March.

Hilton signed a one-year contract extension with the Steelers on Tuesday, the Steelers' official site reports.

Analysis: Hilton played in all 16 regular season games for the Steelers this season, logging four starts. He recorded 64 tackles (48 solo), six passes defensed, four sacks, two interceptions and one forced fumble on the year. Hilton sits behind Joe Haden and Artie Burns on the depth chart, but only 23, the young cornerback could potentially fly up the ranks in his second season with Pittsburgh.

    • Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said...

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that Matakevich will undergo shoulder surgery Wednesday, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Analysis: Pittsburgh may not have a clear grasp on Matakevich's timetable until after the procedure is completed, but it will more than likely prevent the linebacker from being a full participant during the team's offseason program. The 25-year-old didn't see his responsibilities increase much in his second NFL season, as he appeared in 15 games but managed just 23 tackles (18 solo) in a backup role.
